Who We Are
Mission Statement
Capital District Respite is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to assist children and youth to remain in their communities through the provision of respite, skill, family support, pre-vocational, special needs advocacy and crisis avoidance services. This is accomplished by helping children and youth identify their strengths, explore interests, introduce them to their communities and promote an active healthy lifestyle.
PAULA A. TAMBASCO, Executive Director
  • Ms. Tambasco holds a Masters of Science in School Health Education as well as a Professional Teaching Certification for K-12 Health Education from New York State. She also holds s a masterís degree in health services administration from Russell Sage College in Albany and a bachelorís of professional studies in health services administration from the College of Technology at Utica, NY. She is certified in First Aid and CPR and is a Train the Trainer for New York State Office of Mental Health Respite and Skill Building Curriculum.
  • Ms. Tambasco has served as the Executive Director of Capital District Respite since its inception as well as worked one on one with serious emotionally challenged youth since 2004 and five years as a Health Educator in the public schools and a private high-risk school for middle and high school students with a 1:13 class ratio empowering mentally ill and behaviorally challenged youth with life skills. She has over 16 years of experience in health care consulting and management. Her background encompasses a wide range of activities in the health care consulting environment in her role as a Research Associate including research of state and federal regulations, Medicaid and Child Health Plus data analysis, physician surveys, health policy research, provider quality and utilization management, quality improvement activities and physician credentialing.

SHEILA A. WOOD, Assistant Director
  • Ms. Wood holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development from SUNY Empire State College, a certificate in Medical Assisting from Fulton Montgomery Community College and was awarded the Young Professional of the Year Award in 2002 by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Wood is also a Train the Trainer for New York State Office of Mental Health Respite Curriculum.
  • Ms. Sheila Wood has worked in the Human Services field since 1998 and her background encompasses working with a wide range of populations including juvenile delinquents, developmentally disabled, traumatic brain injured, emotionally disturbed, mentally ill, at risk youth and medically frail ranging in age from toddlers to seniors. Ms. Wood has served as a Juvenile Probation Officer for Saratoga County, a Medicaid Service Coordinator for AIM Services, Inc. and also held various positions at the following residential programs: Catholic Charities, Montgomery Transitional Services and Lexington Center. These positions encompassed direct care, prevention, case management and proactive behavioral intervention.
